Meet

Karlien Redelinghuys

I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University and am passionate about supporting individuals through life transitions, emotional challenges, and personal growth. My approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and authenticity, with a strong interest in psychodynamic and emotion-focused therapy, as well as relational approaches to counselling. I value exploring how our past experiences, emotional patterns, and relationships can shape the ways we experience ourselves and the world around us.

I believe that gaining a different perspective on our circumstances can help create movement toward change, growth, and improved well-being. I strive to create a safe and collaborative space where clients feel supported in bravely exploring and discovering deeper parts of themselves.

My journey into counselling and healing work has been shaped by both professional and personal experiences that deepened my appreciation for human resilience, emotional complexity, and the importance of feeling genuinely understood. Through working in community and government-based roles, I have seen how people are often navigating stress, transition, trauma, loss, uncertainty, and systems that can leave them feeling unseen or disconnected from themselves.
These experiences strengthened my belief in the value of authentic human connection, compassion, and creating spaces where people can reflect more deeply on their experiences rather than simply “push through” them. I have also become increasingly interested in how our past relationships, emotional patterns, and life experiences influence the ways we cope, relate to others, and understand ourselves.
At the core of my approach is the belief that increased self-awareness, emotional understanding, and new perspectives can create meaningful opportunities for growth, healing, connection and healthy change.

My Therapeutic Approach

The values that guide my work are authenticity, empathy, curiosity, respect, and genuine human connection. I believe people benefit most from spaces where they feel emotionally safe enough to be honest, reflective, and fully themselves without fear of judgment. I aim to foster an environment that is collaborative, grounded, and compassionate, while still allowing room for challenge, growth, and deeper self-exploration.

I value approaching clients with curiosity, recognizing that every person’s experiences, coping strategies, and emotional patterns developed for meaningful reasons within the context of their lives. My approach is also shaped by the belief that insight and emotional understanding can create movement toward meaningful change, especially when clients begin to see themselves and their circumstances from new perspectives.

Most importantly, I believe connection through authentic relational experiences, coupled with psycho-education, can serve as vessels for rewriting the story and rewiring the nervous system.

Population that I prefer working with

Adults between 17 and 45, particularly those going through life transitions. I, however, welcome working with anyone of any age who resonates with my words or approach, even if it is just a feeling.

Working with me, you would learn to....

Clients working with me may develop greater self-awareness and insight into the emotional patterns, relationships, and past experiences that shape how they navigate their lives today. Through this process, clients may begin to understand themselves with more clarity, compassion, and curiosity rather than self-criticism or shame.

Clients may also experience increased emotional understanding and confidence in expressing their needs, emotions, and boundaries more authentically within their relationships and daily lives.

Another possible takeaway is developing new perspectives on difficult circumstances, allowing for greater resilience, personal growth, and movement toward meaningful change.
