Meet

Kristin Schuster

I am a practicum student therapist currently completing my Master of Counselling Psychology. I am driven by curiosity and a deep belief in the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of being truly heard. My approach to counselling is integrative, drawing mostly from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), allowing me to tailor support to each person's unique needs and story. I am committed to creating a space that is compassionate, non-judgmental, and grounded in curiosity and cultural humility, where clients feel safe to explore their experiences at their own pace. At the heart of my practice is a trauma-informed lens, which shapes not only the techniques I use but the way I show up in every session. I am inspired by the courage it takes to seek support, and I am honoured to walk alongside people as they move toward creating a life more in tune with how they want to live. What draws me to this work is a sincere belief that meaningful change is possible, and that the right support at the right time can open doors people didn't know were available to them.

What has shaped me most on this journey is people, the many different people I have met and had the honour of listening to across very different walks of life. Seeing firsthand how much it can mean to someone to simply be heard, without judgment and without agenda, shifted something in me. It made me realise that authentic human connection is not a small thing, it is often the thing. I have also known what it is to carry a heavy load, and to feel the relief of having someone walk alongside you in it. Those experiences are the reason I am here, and they are the values I bring with me into the counselling space every day.

My Therapeutic Approach

My approach is integrative, creative and client-led. I draw mostly from CBT, Narrative, Solution-Focused, and ACT therapies, but what guides me most is you, your story, your strengths, your goals, and what feels most useful at any given moment. I work through a trauma-informed lens and am committed to cultural humility, meaning I will never assume I understand your experience before you have shared it with me. I believe that real therapeutic change happens in the context of a safe, authentic relationship, one where you feel respected, not judged, and supported to move toward a life that feels meaningful to you.

Compassion and warmth sit at the heart of how I work, creating the safety that growth requires. Curiosity drives me to stay genuinely interested in each person's world rather than making assumptions. Understanding means committing to each client's experience on their own terms. And creativity ensures the work stays flexible, personalised, and alive to what each individual actually needs.

Population that I prefer working with

While I warmly welcome anyone who feels aligned with my approach, I am especially passionate about supporting people in helping profession who are experiencing compassion fatigue and burnout. I am also drawn to working with those navigating immigration, intercultural relationships, and the complexities of belonging across cultures. Life transitions of all kinds, whether chosen or unexpected, are another area close to my heart. These experiences often bring both challenge and opportunity, and I believe that having the right support during those times can make a profound difference.

Working with me, you would learn to....

Clients who work with me can expect to develop greater self-compassion and a kinder relationship with their own experience. Through a collaborative and curious process, many also gain meaningful insight into the patterns, values, and strengths that shape their lives, stepping into a greater sense of agency and becoming the authors of their own stories. And for those who have long been the ones holding space for others, I hope our work together offers something rarer and deeply deserved, the experience of being truly supported while carrying the load.
