Meet

Muskaan Sachdeva

My name is Muskaan and I am currently a Master’s student in Counselling Psychology. My approach to counselling emphasizes compassion, collaboration, and genuine connection. I strive to create a space where clients feel safe in exploring difficult emotions, thoughts, and experiences, while offering a steady presence and evidence-based treatments to help support meaningful change.

As a second generation immigrant, I deeply empathize with the complexities and challenges of biculturalism and developing a well-adjusted cultural identity. This experience has allowed me to connect with individuals navigating the social pressures of assimilation, cultural loss, identity, and clashing family values. As such, I hold a strong commitment to culturally responsive and socially just counselling.

My journey into counselling is strongly influenced by my own experience and struggle with mental illness. In my adolescence, my school counsellor helped me navigate depression and trauma, ultimately leading to significant emotional growth. This led me to find my passion in mental health and wellbeing, especially in cultures where mental illness remains largely unacknowledged. As someone who is familiar with the immense fear and anxiety that comes with seeking professional help, I emphasize warmth and empathy to ensure a safe space for clients.

My Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach is humanistic, person-centred, and integrative, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and existential therapy. I also incorporate various Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT) techniques to best meet the client’s needs and support practical change.

My work is guided by acceptance, collaboration, and cultural humility. I aim to create a sense of support that facilitates agency and deeper self-understanding.

Population that I prefer working with

I feel especially called to work with young adults and youth who are struggling with family, relationships, identity, life meaning, and purpose. I also have an interest in working with individuals from the South Asian community, as well as first- and second-generation immigrants. However, I am happy to work with anyone who resonates with my approach.
