Meet Stephen Spagnuolo

I am a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology student at Yorkville University and a middle school teacher. My counselling approach is relational and evidence-based, with an emphasis on empathy and growth. I am inspired by the resilience of others and the opportunity to support people in building skills to navigate life’s challenges.

In my experience working with youth, I have seen how deeply the current mental health crisis affects young people and their families. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the importance of having capable and compassionate counsellors who can provide steady guidance and create safe spaces for healing. This conviction has been central in shaping my journey into counselling.

My Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach is primarily cognitive-behavioural, focusing on practical strategies to support change. I also draw from solution-focused methods and have an interest in psychodynamic approaches that explore the influence of past experiences.

I believe in the strengths and resilience that each client brings to the counselling process. I strive to approach sessions with patience and openness, while also valuing honesty and transparency in the therapeutic relationship.

Population that I prefer working with

I feel especially called to work with youth and adolescents navigating school, relationships, and identity, as well as young adults managing life transitions, stress, and career challenges. I also have an interest in supporting athletes and performers dealing with pressure or performance anxiety, individuals experiencing anxiety or depression, and clients who are exploring personal growth, self-esteem, and resilience
